Chandigarh: The Punjab Cabinet is scheduled to meet on Saturday afternoon at the official residence of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, with several important policy and administrative matters expected to come up for discussion.
The meeting, set for 12 noon, will be chaired by the Chief Minister and assumes added significance as it comes in the wake of recent political developments within the state government. It will be the first Cabinet session since the arrest of former minister Sanjeev Arora and the subsequent redistribution of the departments that were under his charge.
While the official agenda has not been made public, sources in the government indicated that a number of governance-related issues and pending administrative proposals are likely to be reviewed. The Cabinet may also deliberate on matters concerning public welfare, development initiatives and departmental functioning.
The Cabinet gathering also comes at a time when the ruling Aam Aadmi Party is buoyed by its strong performance in the recently concluded urban local body elections, which have strengthened the government’s political standing across the state.
