GURDASPUR — Significant details have emerged regarding the death of 19-year-old Ranjit Singh in a police encounter, following the release of his post-mortem report on Friday, March 13, 2026. The autopsy, which was conducted by a team of doctors over a duration of four hours and eight minutes, provides a clinical look at the injuries that led to the teenager’s demise. The report identifies a total of six injury marks on the body, including two critical gunshot entry wounds located on the right and left sides of the chest.

According to medical professionals, the corresponding exit wounds were found on the right and left sides of the back, indicating that the bullets passed through his torso. The examination also noted bleeding from the mouth, nose, and ears. Beyond the gunshot injuries, a fifth wound consisting of redness and swelling was observed on the left side of the forehead, while a sixth injury was recorded on the right leg.

While the forensic findings provide the police with a medical record of the event, significant questions remain unanswered regarding the circumstances of the encounter. The police narrative claims that Ranjit Singh managed to flee after a police vehicle overturned. However, local skepticism persists as to how the suspect, who was reportedly handcuffed at the time of his alleged escape, managed to acquire a motorcycle and a pistol to engage in a shootout with law enforcement.

Ranjit Singh had been identified as a suspect in the fatal shooting of Punjab Police ASI Gurnam Singh and Home Guard volunteer Ashok Kumar. That incident occurred on February 22, 2026, at a checkpoint near Adiyan village in Gurdaspur. Singh was one of three youths being pursued in connection with the double murder of the security personnel. The case continues to draw intense scrutiny as the investigation into the encounter and the initial murders progresses.
