Chandigarh: A flood-relief operation near Lalru took a dramatic turn when a police officer, engaged in assisting stranded families, suddenly collapsed on duty.

Eyewitnesses said that as the officer fell unconscious, some of his colleagues panicked and moved away from the scene. It was the local villagers who quickly stepped in, lifting the officer to safety and calling out to the fleeing policemen: “He is one of your own, don’t leave him behind.”

According to residents, the officer’s own family has also been affected by the floods. Struggling with the dual burden of personal loss and the distress of those he was helping, he is believed to have broken down emotionally before collapsing.

The officer was later provided medical attention, while locals praised the courage of villagers who came forward in the moment of crisis.
