Tarn Taran: The violent undercurrents between criminal networks and social media influencers in Punjab took a dangerous turn this week as Pakistani underworld figure Shehzad Bhatti emerged at the center of a deadly dispute.
Bhatti, a known figure with alleged links to extremist elements, has publicly taken interest in the recent Tarn Taran double murder, sending shockwaves through the influencer community and local law enforcement. In a chilling audio message released online, Bhatti declared the killings were “just a trailer” and vowed retaliation against those he claims have dishonored Sikh identity by disrespecting the turban and uncut hair.
His message directly named rapper Jas Dhaliwal and fellow artist Sultan, issuing threats that have sparked widespread concern. The two artists, both active on social media, were reportedly targeted due to their affiliations and comments made online.
The threats follow a violent clash on Monday in Tarn Taran, where 19-year-old Samarpreet Singh and his associate Saurav Singh were fatally shot in a confrontation between rival groups. Responsibility for the killings has been claimed by Gopi Ghanshyampuria, a figure known for his association with Bhatti and reported sympathies with pro-Khalistan factions. Both victims were reportedly connected to Dhaliwal’s circle, further intensifying speculation about motive.
Meanwhile, influencer Mehk Pandori confirmed via social media that both she and Dhaliwal have decided to withdraw from the online spotlight, citing safety concerns and the growing threats. “We’ve chosen to step back. Nothing is worth our lives,” Pandori stated in a video, without directly naming Bhatti.
Despite their exit, Bhatti’s warnings have continued, raising alarms about the reach and influence of overseas-based gangsters in regional turf wars. Security agencies are now on high alert, with concerns growing over cross-border involvement in local crimes and the influence of extremist propaganda online.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on Bhatti’s threats, but internal sources suggest heightened surveillance and intelligence-gathering operations are underway.
As Punjab battles a surge in gang activity interwoven with digital culture, the latest developments highlight a disturbing nexus of crime, ideology, and social media clout – one that may take more than resignations to contain.
