Only Elected Delegates to Choose Rebel SAD President, Says Committee

Chandigarh — The five-member recruitment committee of the rebel Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has reaffirmed that the party’s next president will be chosen solely by elected delegates in accordance with its democratic procedures.

Committee members Manpreet Singh Ayali, Jathedar Gurpartap Singh Wadala, Jathedar Iqbal Singh Jhundan, Jathedar Santa Singh Umaidpuri, and Bibi Satwant Kaur dismissed media speculation over potential contenders, calling it “personal imagination” without any official basis.

Citing the Hukamnama Sahib of December 2, they stressed that the selection of the president and other office-bearers must follow the party’s prescribed process.

“While several names have been suggested, the final authority rests with the elected delegates,” the committee said, adding that any statements from individual leaders should be regarded as personal views, not official party announcements.
