Amritsar: Infamous gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria was transferred from an Assam jail to Punjab on Thursday, ahead of his court appearance in connection with a double murder case. Authorities confirmed that he is scheduled to be produced before a court in Batala later today.
Bhagwanpuria, who has a long criminal history, reportedly filed a petition with the Punjab and Haryana High Court requesting that all his movements be recorded on video, citing fears of a possible encounter by police.
Security arrangements were reportedly tight during the transfer, reflecting the high-profile nature of the case. Law enforcement officials in Punjab stated that the gangster’s return is a significant step in ensuring accountability and progress in ongoing investigations related to organized crime in the region.
The Batala court is expected to hear the case later today, where procedural and security measures for Bhagwanpuria’s custody and trial will be addressed. Authorities have emphasized that strict protocols are in place to ensure his safe and secure handling.
This development comes as part of broader efforts by Punjab police to tackle violent crime and ensure that high-risk offenders face judicial scrutiny.
