Chandigarh: Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Amritpal Singh is slated to contest the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections from two separate constituencies, with one seat being selected from the Majha region and another from Malwa. Disclosing the move on Friday, senior party leader and Dakha MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali stated that the leadership collective of Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) has decided to field him in both belts to anchor their statewide electoral campaign.
While Ayali confirmed the strategy, he refrained from naming the specific constituencies, noting that the party’s parliamentary board will make the final formal determination. Party insiders indicate that multiple seats are currently under consideration, including Khadoor Sahib, Talwandi Sabo, Rampura Phul, and Dhuri—the constituency represented by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Contesting from the Malwa region is viewed as a strategic priority for the outfit, given that the area accounts for 69 of the state’s 117 legislative assembly seats.
Amritpal Singh, who secured a decisive victory from the Khadoor Sahib parliamentary seat during the 2024 general election, has emerged as a significant force in Punjab’s Panthic political landscape. Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) has already commenced groundwork across the state ahead of the 2027 polls, actively expanding its organizational machinery, announcing candidates in select pockets, and inducting several former legislators and retired bureaucrats into its ranks.
