Mohali/Dera Bassi— Four alleged members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang were arrested on Wednesday after a brief but intense exchange of fire with police in Punjab’s Dera Bassi area. Two of the accused suffered gunshot wounds to their legs during the encounter and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police said the operation was launched after an intelligence alert indicated that several gang operatives were hiding in an abandoned building. Acting on the tip-off, teams from Mohali Police and the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) jointly cordoned off the area.
As officers approached the structure, the suspects opened fire, forcing the police to retaliate in self-defence. The exchange ended with all four men being overpowered and arrested.
Several illegal weapons, including pistols, were recovered from the accused. Investigators are now examining the gang members to determine their movements, associates and the possible crime they were planning in the region.
