Raikot (Ludhiana): A tragic incident was reported from Raikot in Ludhiana district where a young man was found dead inside a hotel room, allegedly after shooting himself with his licensed pistol, just days before his scheduled wedding on January 16.

The deceased has been identified as Kamal, a resident of Jalal Diwal village. According to preliminary investigations, Kamal had been staying at a hotel near Barnala Chowk in Raikot. On Sunday night, he reportedly hosted a liquor party with his friends at the hotel. After dropping them back home, he returned alone to his room.

Early Monday morning, Kamal allegedly fired a shot at himself inside the hotel room, resulting in his death on the spot. Hotel staff rushed to the room after hearing the gunshot but found the door locked from inside. Using a master key, they entered the room and found Kamal lying in a pool of blood, with a pistol recovered nearby. The police were immediately informed.

Raikot City Police, along with DSP Raikot Harjinder Singh and Station House Officer Gursewak Singh, reached the spot and inspected the scene. The room was sealed, and a forensic team was called to collect evidence.

Police officials said statements from the victim’s friends indicated that Kamal had been under severe mental stress after his wedding date was finalised. They claimed he often appeared emotionally disturbed and was anxious about his increasing weight, frequently discussing possible medical treatment with close acquaintances.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and statements of family members are being recorded. Police said further action will be taken after receiving forensic and post-mortem reports, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
