Amritsar: The Amritsar Rural Police have arrested a man for allegedly threatening Aam Aadmi Party leader Sonia Mann, the Rajasansi constituency in-charge, through social media. The complaint was lodged by Mann’s social media handler, prompting swift action from the authorities. DSP Rajasansi Neeraj Kumar stated that the case was taken very seriously and led to the immediate apprehension of the suspect.
According to the complaint, on December 8, 2025, the Instagram account @preet_jatit581 posted messages threatening to kill Sonia Mann. Following the reports, the police promptly began gathering technical evidence and filed a case under the IT Act, 2000, and Section 25 of the Arms Act. Using a combination of cyber expertise and human intelligence, the individual behind the account was identified as Gopi, a resident of Bhindiseda. Police verified his location and arrested him without delay.
Authorities are continuing the investigation to determine whether the accused had connections with others or if there was a larger conspiracy behind the threats. DSP Neeraj Kumar emphasized that no threat made through social media would be taken lightly, describing such acts as not only legal violations but also interference in democratic processes. Police assured that further action will be taken promptly based on emerging evidence.
