Ludhiana: A 32-year-old married woman allegedly died by suicide in Surjit Colony, Jagirpur area of Ludhiana, after reportedly being harassed and blackmailed by her landlord. The deceased has been identified as Rozy. She is survived by a son and a daughter.
According to family members, Rozy’s husband had been abroad for the past five months in search of employment. During this period, she was staying with her children in the rented accommodation.
Rozy’s father, Pala Ram, stated that on February 9, 2026, he received a phone call informing him that his daughter had allegedly taken her own life. When the family reached the spot, her in-laws reportedly said that Rozy had never shared any serious concerns and would often speak positively about her children.
However, the family has levelled serious allegations against the landlord. They claim that he had secretly recorded a video of Rozy while she was bathing and later used it to blackmail and mentally harass her. The alleged harassment is believed to have continued for a prolonged period.
Family members further revealed that before her death, Rozy recorded multiple video messages in which she accused the landlord of subjecting her to mental torture and blackmail. In the clips, she reportedly held him directly responsible for her extreme step and described the distress she had been enduring.
Investigating officer ASI Baljit Singh confirmed that the incident occurred on February 9, 2026. The postmortem examination was conducted at the Civil Hospital, and the body has been handed over to the family.
Tibba police have registered a case under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) and Section 3(5) (common intention) of the IPC. The landlord and his wife, Pushpa, have been named in the FIR. Police teams are conducting raids to trace and apprehend the accused.
