Amritsar: A late-night gang war in the Golden Avenue area under Mohkampura police station limits claimed the life of a young man named Nimish and left his friend critically injured.

According to police, five assailants on two motorcycles opened fire on Nimish while he was returning home with a friend in a Creta car on Wednesday night. The attackers first smashed the car windows before firing multiple rounds, leaving both youths grievously injured.

They were rushed to the hospital where Nimish succumbed to his injuries, while his friend remains in critical condition.

Preliminary investigation suggests that members of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang were involved in the attack. Police have registered a case against unidentified suspects and are scanning CCTV footage from the area.

ACP Sheetal Singh confirmed that statements from the family have been recorded and the matter is under investigation. So far, no gang has officially claimed responsibility for the incident.
