Jalandhar: In a shocking incident, a five-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her father in Jalandhar after he lost control while trying to stop her from crying. The tragic incident took place in Doordarshan Enclave, where the police have arrested the accused.
The accused has been identified as Arvinder Singh, a native of Chhattisgarh, who works as a daily-wage labourer and was residing in Doordarshan Enclave. The complaint was lodged by the child’s uncle, Himmat Kumar, following which the police registered a case and took swift action to arrest the accused.
According to the complaint, Arvinder Singh was addicted to alcohol and frequently consumed liquor. The family was facing severe financial hardship. While Arvinder worked as a daily labourer, his wife was employed as a domestic helper to support the household. The five-year-old girl was living with her parents amid ongoing financial stress and domestic tension.
As per information received, the incident occurred on February 3 when the child’s mother had gone to work and only the accused and the child were present at home. During this time, Arvinder was allegedly intoxicated. Around 2:30 pm, the child began crying due to hunger.
It is alleged that the accused first tried to silence the child by forcing alcohol into her mouth. When she continued to cry, he allegedly lifted her and threw her to the ground. Despite this, the child did not stop crying.
In a fit of rage, the accused allegedly strangled his daughter, leading to her immediate death. The incident came to light after neighbours noticed unusual activity, following which panic and grief spread in the area.
The police have taken the body into custody and initiated further legal proceedings. An investigation is underway to ascertain all circumstances surrounding the incident.
