Jalandhar (Ens): Lovely Professional University (LPU) joined the launch of the nationwide 100 week “Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan-Gen Z Against Addiction” campaign with the participation of over 5,000 students, NSS volunteers, and faculty members, who came together to take the Nasha Mukti Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to a drug free life. The campaign, launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and spearheaded by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, witnessed participation from youth across more than 28,000 locations nationwide. Recognising LPU’s exemplary commitment to the cause, the University was selected as one of only nine universities in the country to participate in the live virtual interaction with the Hon’ble Prime Minister, contributing to the national movement towards a healthier society and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Addressing the youth, Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi described India’s youth as the most crucial force in shaping the nation’s journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047. The Prime Minister cautioned that drug addiction affects not only an individual but also devastates families, careers, and society. Emphasising the grave consequences of substance abuse, the Prime Minister remarked, “Drugs may give a very small time of high, but they leave a low for a lifetime.” Appreciating the enthusiastic participation of young people from across the country, the Prime Minister urged them to lead the movement against drug abuse and reaffirmed that while the Government is continuously strengthening awareness, prevention, enforcement, and rehabilitation initiatives to eradicate the menace of drugs, the active participation and leadership of India’s youth will be the decisive force in building a healthy, empowered, drug free, and developed nation.
Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU, stated, “Nation building begins with building responsible citizens, and universities have a vital role in that mission. At LPU, we see it as our enduring responsibility to empower young minds with not only knowledge and skills, but also the values that strengthen society. LPU’s commitment to a drug free campus, continuous outreach programmes, and active participation in national initiatives reflect this belief. As we join Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji in this nationwide mission against drugs, it is heartening that today also happens to be Friendship Day. On this occasion, let us make the Hon’ble Prime Minister our friend in this national movement and join him in taking a pledge for a Nasha Mukta Yuva and Nasha Mukta Bharat. Let us resolve to stay away from drugs, encourage our friends to do the same, and together become ambassadors of a healthier, stronger, and more responsible India.”
Students also presented thought provoking nukkad nataks, cultural performances, and awareness based presentations portraying the devastating impact of substance abuse on individuals, families, and society. Through compelling performances and creative expression, they powerfully echoed the campaign’s message of “Gen Z against addiction,” inspiring young people to reject addiction, make informed life choices, and become ambassadors of a drug free India.
LPU has consistently championed the cause of a drug free society through sustained awareness, prevention, and community engagement. The university maintains a strict zero tolerance policy towards drugs and alcohol, supported by a dedicated team of trained security personnel deployed round the clock to ensure that the campus remains safe and drug free. Complementing these preventive measures, the university regularly organises awareness programmes that encourage students to make informed and responsible choices.
Extending its efforts beyond the campus, LPU’s National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers regularly conduct anti drug awareness campaigns in neighbouring villages and rural communities through rallies, street plays, interactive sessions, and community outreach programmes that educate people about the harmful consequences of substance abuse. These sustained initiatives have made drug awareness and prevention an integral part of LPU’s social outreach, reflecting the university’s enduring commitment to nation building by nurturing responsible citizens and contributing to a healthier, drug free India.
