Chandigarh: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a tehsil-level forecast for Haryana and Punjab, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and spells of rainfall across several districts until Sunday.
According to the advisory, parts of Haryana, including Karnal, Indri, Thanesar, Nilokheri, Radaur, Barara, Jagadhri, and Chhachhrauli, are expected to witness heavy showers accompanied by thunder and lightning. Moderate rainfall is likely over Gharaunda, Asandh, Kaithal, Narayangarh, Panchkula, Pehowa, Shahabad, Ambala, Chandigarh, Kalka, and adjoining areas. Light rain has also been predicted for Bahadurgarh, Rohtak, Sonipat, Panipat, Jind, and surrounding regions.
In Punjab, Patiala, Rajpura, Dera Bassi, Fatehgarh Sahib, Amloh, Mohali, Bassi Pathana, Chandigarh, Kharar, Rupnagar, Balachaur, and Anandpur Sahib are likely to experience moderate rainfall with thunderstorm activity. Meanwhile, light showers may occur in Sangrur, Malerkotla, Nabha, Khanna, Ludhiana East, Samrala, Nawanshahr, Garhshankar, Nangal, Amritsar, Batala, Ajnala, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, and Dhar Kalan.
While no severe warning has been issued, the IMD has advised residents to remain cautious, particularly in areas prone to strong winds of 30–40 kmph. People have also been urged to exercise care during travel and avoid seeking shelter under trees during lightning strikes.
The weather department said that these conditions are part of seasonal activity and urged the public not to panic but remain alert to sudden weather changes.
