Balachaur: Political tensions in Punjab intensified on Sunday after a protest by Aam Aadmi Party workers outside the BJP office in Balachaur reportedly spiralled into a confrontation involving Banga MLA Dr. Sukhwinder Sukhi and Nawanshahr BJP district chief Rajwinder Lucky.
The incident unfolded during statewide demonstrations organised by AAP against recent Enforcement Directorate action involving party leaders.
According to BJP leaders, the situation escalated when Rajwinder Lucky began livestreaming the protest from inside the party office. During the commotion, an argument reportedly broke out between him and MLA Sukhi, with allegations that an attempt was made to snatch Lucky’s mobile phone while he was recording.
The entire exchange was allegedly captured during the live broadcast, with video clips later circulating on social media.
Lucky claimed that when AAP workers arrived at the office around 11 am, they were welcomed peacefully and even offered refreshments. He said he had expected a larger gathering and had arranged tea and water for the protesters.
However, he alleged that several AAP supporters later entered the premises and took away a microphone and speaker kept inside the office. When he objected and commented on the act, tensions quickly flared.
Lucky further alleged that while he continued recording the events, some protesters approached him aggressively, and he was threatened during the altercation.
The standoff reportedly lasted around ten minutes before police personnel stepped in and separated both sides, restoring calm at the spot. AAP workers later raised slogans and left the office premises.
The incident has triggered strong reactions from BJP leaders. Senior party figures accused AAP of political intimidation and condemned what they described as “lawlessness” during the protest.
Punjab BJP leaders, including senior office-bearers, are expected to raise the issue formally with district police authorities, seeking action against those allegedly involved in the confrontation.
