WINDSOR, ONTARIO — The murder of prominent Punjabi-origin social media influencer Nancy Grewal has taken a chilling turn after a notorious gangster group claimed responsibility for the targeted attack in LaSalle, near Windsor. On Tuesday night, March 3, 2026, the 45-year-old YouTuber and personal support worker was brutally stabbed to death as she was leaving a client’s residence. The LaSalle Police Service has since confirmed that the homicide was an intentional and pre-planned act of violence rather than a random incident.

Gruesome details of the attack have emerged from Grewal’s mother, Shinderpal Kaur, who spoke from her home in Jalandhar. According to her account, Grewal was attacked by two unidentified men who stabbed her approximately 20 times in the abdomen. In a particularly horrific display of brutality, the attackers allegedly cut off her tongue before fleeing the scene. Grewal, who had moved to Canada in 2018 and recently obtained her citizenship, succumbed to her injuries at a nearby hospital shortly after the assault.

The investigation saw a significant development when a social media post surfaced from individuals identified as Akash Harike and Sukha Sandhu. In the post, the pair claimed responsibility for the execution on behalf of their “brothers,” stating that Grewal was targeted for her outspoken criticism of religion and the Khalistan movement. The message warned that anyone who speaks against the community in a similar manner would face a similar fate. While the authenticity of this specific post is still being verified by investigators, it aligns with the history of threats Grewal had reported to the police.

Nancy Grewal was widely known in the Punjabi diaspora for her fearless and often controversial commentary on South Asian politics. Following the death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, she had intensified her criticism of extremist elements, openly calling Nijjar a terrorist and mocking prominent separatist leaders. Her mother revealed that Nancy had been living under a constant cloud of threats and had even survived a previous attempt to set her home on fire in late 2025. Despite installing extensive CCTV surveillance and reporting these incidents, her family maintains that the authorities failed to provide the necessary protection to prevent this tragedy.

The LaSalle Police continue to lead the homicide investigation, urging anyone with surveillance footage from the 2400 block of Todd Lane to come forward. As the community mourns the loss of a vocal and brave commentator, the incident has once again ignited intense debate over the safety of Indian-origin critics in Canada and the rising influence of gang-related violence in political disputes.
