Derabassi— A gangster associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was injured in an encounter with the police near Derabassi, close to Chandigarh. The incident occurred after the Mohali Police and the Anti-Gangster Task Force conducted a joint raid on a rented accommodation on Gulabgarh Road, following a tip-off.
The gangster, identified as Sumit, was reportedly involved in a murder case that took place on May 18 in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan. Since the crime, he had been absconding, with police teams from Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan actively searching for him.
According to officials, Sumit opened fire upon seeing the police team. In the retaliatory action, he was shot in the leg and subsequently arrested. He was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. The police also recovered a weapon from his possession.
Initial reports confirm that Sumit had been hiding in a paying guest accommodation to avoid arrest. Authorities have not ruled out his involvement in other crimes and are expected to reveal further details in an upcoming press conference.
The encounter adds to a growing number of crackdowns on gangster networks operating in northern India, especially those linked to Lawrence Bishnoi.
