Fatehgarh Sahib: Panic gripped passengers aboard the Amritsar-Saharsa Garib Rath early Saturday morning after a fire broke out in one of the coaches shortly after the train passed Sirhind Junction. The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. and led to minor injuries as several passengers jumped off the moving train in fear.
According to railway officials, smoke was first noticed billowing from coach G-19. The train was immediately brought to a halt by the loco pilot using the emergency brakes. Quick action by railway personnel on board helped prevent the fire from spreading, and it was brought under control swiftly.
While no fatalities were reported, a few passengers sustained injuries after leaping from the train in panic. Officials confirmed that none of the injuries were serious.
The injured were given first aid on the spot, and some were later taken to nearby medical facilities for precautionary checkups.
Following the incident, the affected coach was detached, and the remaining part of the train was cleared to continue its journey toward Saharsa. An investigation into the cause of the fire has been initiated.
