Ferozepur: In a significant breakthrough under Punjab’s intensified ‘War Against Drugs,’ Ferozepur Police arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered 2.042 kg of heroin during a targeted operation carried out under the NDPS Act.

Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said the Punjab Police, under DGP Gaurav Yadav, has been carrying out continuous operations against drug smuggling, gang networks, and other criminal activities across the state. As part of this push, police teams in Ferozepur have stepped up patrols, surveillance, and search operations.

DSP Zira, Jaspal Singh Dhillon, stated that a Makhu police team led by SHO Jagdeep Singh was conducting checking near the TT point area when a suspicious man was stopped. The individual attempted to escape but was swiftly caught. He was identified as Vijay Singh, 21, a resident of Jalalwala village in Ferozepur.

A search led to the recovery of 2.042 kg of heroin from his possession. A case was registered under the NDPS Act and Section 188 at Makhu Police Station on November 13.

During initial questioning, Vijay Singh allegedly admitted to sourcing the contraband from Chheharta Road in Amritsar through a known supplier. Police said efforts are now underway to trace the supplier and uncover the broader network behind the smuggling operation. Officers added that more arrests and crucial leads are expected once the accused is taken on remand.
