Tarn Taran: Protesting the delay in compensation for flood damage, farmers in Punjab made the Usman Toll Plaza toll-free for nearly three hours on Monday following a call by the Azad Kisan Morcha.

Members of the Flood Victim Farmers’ Struggle Committee led the protest, alleging that despite suffering heavy losses due to recent floods, they are yet to receive compensation from the government. Farmer leaders, including state president Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia and Jajbir Singh Sabra, said crops were destroyed and homes and agricultural land were severely affected.

They claimed that earlier protests were withdrawn after assurances from the Chief Secretary that compensation would be released जल्द. However, with no progress even after several months, farmers said they were forced to resume agitation.

As part of the protest, the toll plaza on the Tarn Taran highway was kept free, allowing vehicles to pass without paying toll charges. The move was described as a symbolic action to press the government to fulfil its commitments.

Farmer leaders warned that if their demands are not addressed soon, the agitation will be intensified and expanded to other parts of Punjab.
