Chandigarh: The Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly has allowed a three-day extension to the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) and other senior police officials to submit their response in connection with the Atishi video case, setting January 15 as the final deadline.

According to official sources, the Punjab DGP, the Special DGP (Cyber Crime), and the Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, had requested 10 days to file their replies to the notice issued by the Speaker. However, the request was only partially accepted, with the Speaker declining to grant the full extension and permitting limited additional time instead. Initially, the officers had been directed to respond within 48 hours.

The matter pertains to the registration of an FIR in Jalandhar over a video allegedly linked to Delhi Leader of Opposition Atishi. The issue has triggered sharp political reactions and raised legal questions, drawing attention across both Punjab and Delhi.

The Speaker’s decision to allow a brief extension underscores the seriousness with which the Assembly is treating the issue, while also signalling that further delays will not be entertained.
