Tarn Taran: Political tension has deepened in Punjab’s Tarn Taran ahead of the Assembly bypoll, as Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and his family have reportedly received death threats following his controversial remarks about late Home Minister Buta Singh.

According to reports, senior Congress leader Rajbir Singh Bhullar informed police that he and Raja Warring received WhatsApp death threats from a foreign number on October 31. Bhullar stated that during the call, both he and Warring were threatened, and later, a voice message claimed that “Raja Warring and his family must be eliminated, and Rajbir Bhullar will not be spared either.”

Following the threat, Bhullar filed a complaint with the Tarn Taran Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), seeking security protection. The threats are believed to be connected to Warring’s earlier comments, which sparked political uproar and led to an FIR against him under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Police have registered an FIR against Pakistan-based gangster and terrorist Harwinder Singh Rinda and two others in connection with the case. While officials have yet to issue a formal statement, sources suggest that the investigation is underway to trace the origin of the threatening calls.

The incident comes just days after Warring accused gangsters of attempting to influence the ongoing bypoll process, a remark that has further intensified the political heat in the region.
