Chandigarh: The Congress party has expelled former MLA Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of senior party leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, from its primary membership, marking a decisive escalation in disciplinary action against her.
An official letter confirming her expulsion was issued by Bhupesh Baghel, the Punjab Congress in-charge. Party sources said the move followed repeated instances of indiscipline and public statements made by Dr Sidhu against the party’s leadership and policies.
Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu had earlier been placed under suspension. However, the party high command has now taken a tougher stand by terminating her primary membership altogether. The decision comes days after Dr Sidhu publicly claimed that she had quit the Congress, a statement that reportedly further strained her relationship with the party leadership.
Soon after her expulsion, Dr Sidhu launched a sharp attack on senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of being disconnected from ground realities and surrounded by self-interested loyalists. In a strongly worded public statement, she alleged that Rahul Gandhi believes himself to be the only honest and knowledgeable leader, while remaining unaware of the real political situation.
She further claimed that key decisions are delayed, often coming months after urgent concerns are raised, leading to irreversible political damage. According to her, Rahul Gandhi’s close aides isolate him while enjoying power and privileges, taking crucial decisions in his absence.
Questioning the commitment of Congress workers in Punjab, Dr Sidhu alleged that many party supporters are more focused on personal gains than on working selflessly for the state. She also challenged party leaders to speak openly against the current government, claiming that several leaders fear scrutiny of their own records.
Describing her remarks as advice to a “good friend,” Dr Sidhu urged Rahul Gandhi to be more mindful, mature, receptive and practical in his political approach.
The Congress party has not issued any immediate response to her allegations.
