Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police have arrested a wanted accused for allegedly providing shelter and logistical assistance to the shooters involved in the murder of Inderpreet Singh alias “Perry,” marking a significant development in the case.

The arrest was made by a joint team of the District Crime Cell (DCC) and Police Station Sector 26 under the supervision of the SSP, UT Chandigarh. The accused, identified as Sunny Kumar (35), son of Sukhmesh Kumar and a resident of Kharar in SAS Nagar district, was apprehended near the cremation ground in Bhagat Ghat Colony, Kharar, following a specific tip-off.

Police officials said Sunny Kumar knowingly harboured the main accused and shooters before the murder took place. He had been absconding since the incident and was actively evading arrest.

During the operation, the police recovered a country-made pistol of Star make along with two live cartridges from his possession.

A case has been registered against the accused under FIR No. 129 dated December 1, 2025, at Police Station Sector 26, invoking Sections 103, 3(5) and 341(2) of the Indian Penal Code, along with Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.

Officials said further investigation is underway to determine which of the shooters stayed at the accused’s residence and to gather additional evidence connected to the murder.
