Patiala (Punjab): A wave of panic gripped Patiala on Tuesday after several schools in the city received bomb threat emails, prompting immediate action from the police and district administration.
According to officials, multiple educational institutions received suspicious emails early Tuesday morning warning of bomb blasts on their premises. The sender reportedly mentioned a time window between 9 am and 1 pm, triggering alarm among school authorities, students and parents.
School managements promptly alerted the police following the receipt of the threats. Acting swiftly, the Patiala police activated emergency security protocols to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Patiala, ordered heightened vigilance across the city soon after the information was received. Police teams were deployed outside the affected schools, while bomb disposal squads and security personnel conducted thorough searches of the premises.
As a precautionary measure, security was also intensified at sensitive and crowded locations, including the Patiala railway station and other public areas, to prevent any possible untoward incident.
Meanwhile, the cyber cell and special investigation teams of the Punjab Police have launched a detailed probe to trace the origin of the threatening emails and identify those behind the scare. Officials said technical analysis is underway to track the sender and determine whether the threats were genuine or a hoax.
Authorities have assured citizens that the situation is under control and appealed to the public to remain calm as investigations continue.
