Kharar (Mohali): Panic prevailed at the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) office in Kharar on Friday after the local administration received a threatening email warning of a bomb blast at the premises.

The threat was sent to the official email ID of the SDM office, prompting authorities to swing into action immediately. As a precautionary measure, the entire building was evacuated, and all staff members, officers and visitors were asked to move to a safe distance.

Police teams reached the spot soon after receiving the alert, accompanied by the Bomb Disposal Squad and Dog Squad. Security personnel carried out a thorough search of the premises, cordoning off the area to prevent any untoward incident.

Officials said a systematic sanitisation of the building was undertaken to rule out the presence of any explosive material. The operation was ongoing at the time of filing this report, and no suspicious object had been detected so far.

Police have initiated an investigation to trace the source of the threatening email and identify those responsible for creating panic. Further details are awaited.
