Bikram Singh Majithia and Associates Granted Regular Bail in Majitha Police Station Case

Chandigarh: An Amritsar court on Saturday granted a major legal relief to former Punjab minister and senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia by approving his application for regular bail. The court also extended the same judicial relief to his close political associates, Jodh Singh Samra and Jatinder Singh Hamza. The matter pertains to an alleged confrontation and forced entry at the Majitha police station, where Akali leadership and workers were accused of storming the facility to secure the release of a detained party worker.

The judicial decision follows a detailed hearing on Friday, during which the court reviewed the extensive legal arguments presented by both the prosecution and the defence counsels. After evaluating the submissions, the court had reserved its final judgment until Saturday afternoon. Prior to securing regular bail, Majithia and his co-accused had already been granted interim anticipatory bail in connection with the case. The Shiromani Akali Dal legal team welcoming the decision maintained that the registration of the criminal case was politically motivated and lacked substantial evidential backing.

The case stems from an incident registered under FIR Number 91 at the Majitha police station, where the opposition leaders were booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including allegations of obstructing public servants from executing their duties, criminal intimidation, unlawful assembly, and tearing official documents. While the ruling administration had previously defended the police action and carried out searches, the court’s latest order solidifies the regular bail status for Majithia and his aides, bringing a significant wave of relief to the regional opposition party ranks.
