Amritsar: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has acknowledged that certain remarks made by him on Sikh Rehat Maryada and Sikh principles should not have been made, Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gadgaj, said on Wednesday.

Addressing the media after Mann’s appearance before the Akal Takht, the Acting Jathedar said the interaction took place in a cordial atmosphere. During the deposition, the chief minister responded to the questions put to him and admitted that some of his statements were inappropriate and could have been avoided.

Giani Kuldeep Singh Gadgaj stated that as part of the proceedings, he presented two booklets to the chief minister — one detailing the Sikh Rehat Maryada and another being a gazette outlining the income and expenditure of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) from various gurdwaras.

He further informed that the panel of five Sikh high priests would collectively deliberate on the chief minister’s response. A decision on the future course of action will be taken after these deliberations are completed.

The matter had drawn attention following public remarks attributed to the chief minister, prompting his summoning to present his clarification before the Sikh clergy.
