Ludhiana: A shocking incident of sacrilege has surfaced in Ludhiana, where a woman allegedly disrespected Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji inside a gurdwara premises. The matter has created outrage among the local Sangat, leading to the registration of a police case.
According to reports, the woman, identified as Prakash Kaur, a resident of Jugiana village, allegedly removed her clothes in front of the holy scripture inside Gurdwara Shri Ravidas Ji Maharaj in Sahnewal area. The act, carried out in the presence of her husband Harbhajan Singh, was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the gurdwara.
Local devotees immediately intervened and brought the situation under control. Following a complaint filed by Jaswant Singh Cheema, a member of Waris Punjab De, the Sahnewal police booked the woman under Section 298 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for hurting religious sentiments.
Keys Missing From Gurdwara Linked to Incident
Investigating officer ASI Jaspreet Singh revealed that the gurdwara committee had earlier raised concerns over missing keys, which reportedly led to suspicions about the woman. She was called to the gurdwara for questioning. During an altercation with other women present, Prakash Kaur allegedly lost her temper and committed the act, causing widespread anger among the community.
Her husband, who was present at the time, reportedly did not intervene. Police officials confirmed that the woman is not in custody yet, while further investigation into both the sacrilege incident and the missing keys is underway.
The incident has deeply hurt the sentiments of devotees, with community members demanding strict action against those responsible.
