Chandigarh: Indian Railways has announced special arrangements to handle the massive rush of passengers traveling from Punjab to Bihar during the Chhath Mahaparv. To ease the festive journey, a special train will operate between Amritsar and Darbhanga, covering major routes in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.
Every year, thousands of migrant workers and employees from Punjab, Haryana, and other northern states return home to Bihar for Chhath. The heavy demand for tickets often makes it difficult for passengers to secure seats on regular trains. Addressing this challenge, Railways has introduced the Amritsar-Darbhanga Puja Special, providing significant relief to travelers.
According to officials, train number 04610 will depart from Amritsar every Monday, Friday, and Saturday between September 22 and November 28. On the return route, train number 04609 will leave Darbhanga every Wednesday, Sunday, and Monday from September 24 to November 30.
The special train will pass through Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Ambala, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Lucknow, and Gorakhpur before reaching Bihar. On its return journey, it will cover key stations including Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Hajipur, and Chhapra before reaching Amritsar.
With this move, Indian Railways expects to provide smoother travel, timely arrivals, and much-needed comfort for migrants heading home for the festival.
