Chandigarh/Amritsar: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted a narcotics smuggling module with the arrest of two operatives and the recovery of 7 kg of heroin, Punjab Police said on Wednesday.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the accused have been identified as Inderjeet Singh from Tarn Taran and Ravinder Sharma from Amritsar. Police also impounded a Maruti Suzuki Brezza and a Hero Passion, which were allegedly used to transport the contraband.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the arrested individuals were actively involved in moving heroin consignments and are believed to be part of a larger narcotics network operating in the region.

According to Gaurav Yadav, CI teams received specific intelligence inputs about the suspects’ movement near Adda Bohru on the Amritsar–Jhabal road. Acting swiftly, police laid checkpoints and intercepted the duo. During the search, 4 kg heroin was recovered from beneath the driver’s seat of the car, while an additional 3 kg was seized from the second आरोपी.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at the State Special Operation Cell police station in Amritsar.

Police said further investigations are underway to trace forward and backward linkages, with more arrests and recoveries likely in the coming days.
