Amritsar: The Amritsar Commissionerate Police have achieved a major breakthrough by dismantling a drone-based arms smuggling network during an intelligence-led operation, leading to the arrest of three key accused and the recovery of seven sophisticated illegal pistols.

The seized weapons include Glock, Beretta, Zigana and .30 bore pistols, two of which are capable of automatic fire, highlighting the serious threat posed by the racket.

Addressing a press conference, Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested accused were in direct contact with Pakistan-based smugglers and handlers. The network allegedly used drones to drop consignments of weapons across the international border, which were then distributed further within Punjab.

According to police, the gang had been active for the past four to five months and the accused have confessed to receiving multiple consignments during this period. Technical and digital investigations are currently underway to trace the full extent of the network and identify additional links.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Resham Singh alias Bhulla, Vishal and Sumit from the Sone area. Police said one of the accused was associated with a car sale-purchase business, which helped him move easily between locations and manage logistics without raising suspicion.

Officials said the arrest of the three accused has dealt a significant blow to the arms smuggling module and further action is expected as investigations progress. The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and preventing cross-border smuggling activities that threaten public safety in Punjab.
