Amritsar: In a major success against organised crime, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has arrested three members of a transnational narcotics and arms smuggling syndicate operating along the Punjab border.

According to officials, the network was actively engaged in pushing heroin and sophisticated weapons into India from Pakistan, while also channeling drug proceeds through hawala routes.

Those arrested have been identified as Harpreet Singh and Gurpal Singh, both of whom had previously visited Malaysia, and their associate Ranjodh Singh. Preliminary investigation suggests that the duo maintained close ties with cross-border suppliers, facilitating the inflow of contraband into Punjab.

Acting on their disclosures, police recovered 2.02 kilograms of heroin, two .30 bore pistols, and a Glock 9mm pistol. In a separate raid, Ranjodh Singh was caught with two more pistols and ₹3.5 lakh in drug money, allegedly earmarked for hawala transfer.

A case has been registered at Police Station Gate Hakiman, and investigators are working to identify the wider network and its handlers across the border.

The Punjab Police has reaffirmed its commitment to intensify its crackdown on narco-terror and organised crime, calling the operation a significant step towards safeguarding the state from drug and gun smuggling.
