Taran Tarn: Shiromani Akali Dal senior leader Virsa Singh Valtoha on Sunday announced that women Akali leader Kanchanpreet Kaur has been declared the party’s official candidate for the Zila Parishad elections from the Kasel zone.
Kanchanpreet Kaur, daughter of SAD’s Tarn Taran bypoll candidate Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa, was released at 4 am after an overnight court hearing. The Tarn Taran court had ordered her release following hours of arguments that continued through the night.
She had been arrested when she arrived at Amritsar’s Majitha police station to join the investigation in a case registered against her. Her detention came just days before the crucial local body polls, drawing sharp reactions from Akali Dal leaders who called the arrest politically motivated.
Her candidature announcement is expected to intensify the political atmosphere in the region as campaigning gains momentum.
