Amritsar: In a significant decision aimed at safeguarding Sikh religious traditions, a high-level meeting of the Panj Singh Sahiban was held at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on Sunday under the leadership of Acting Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj. The meeting resulted in several key resolutions related to Sikh maryada, including strict directions on Anand Karaj ceremonies, filmmaking on Sikh religious themes, and political interference in Sikh affairs.
Briefing the media after the meeting, Acting Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj announced that Anand Karaj ceremonies will now be permitted exclusively inside Gurdwaras. He made it clear that holding Sikh marriage ceremonies in parks, hotels, resorts or other open or commercial venues will be completely prohibited.
The Panj Singh Sahiban also decided that films based on Sikh religious subjects cannot be made using artificial intelligence or animation. Any film or visual content related to Sikh history or Gurus will require prior approval from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the Jathedar said.
Another major resolution adopted during the meeting was a firm warning against political interference in Sikh internal matters. The Panj Singh Sahiban stated that no political party, including ruling or opposition groups, should interfere in issues related to Sikh institutions or religious traditions. A clear caution was issued that if interference continues, action will be taken in accordance with established Sikh traditions.
The meeting was attended by Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Tek Singh, Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib Head Granthi Giani Parvinderpal Singh, Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Head Granthi Giani Jaginder Singh, and Singh Sahib Giani Keval Singh. All decisions were taken unanimously, and the Sikh community has been urged to strictly adhere to them.
