Ludhiana: A late-night altercation during a wedding function in Ludhiana escalated into violence, leaving four people injured in the early hours of Tuesday. Among the victims, one sustained a gunshot wound, while three others were attacked with sharp-edged weapons, police said.
The incident took place around 3 am near Kochar Market, under the jurisdiction of Police Division-2. According to investigating officer Sub-Inspector Jasbir Singh, a dispute between two groups—reportedly neighbours—spiraled out of control, leading to a physical clash in which three individuals were injured with sharp weapons.
Police said tensions flared again when the injured were being taken to the civil hospital. Members of the rival group allegedly confronted them once more, and during the altercation, a man opened fire. A person identified as Dharminder was hit by a bullet and injured.
All the injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment, where one of them is stated to be in critical condition.
Officials clarified that the incident was not linked to any gang rivalry. “The individuals involved are local residents and were reportedly under the influence of alcohol. What began as a minor argument quickly turned violent,” said SI Jasbir Singh.
Meanwhile, ASI Dharminder Kumar, in-charge of the Janakpuri police post, said that three rounds were fired near the civil hospital, with one bullet striking the victim in the leg. He added that the firearm used in the incident is suspected to be licensed, though confirmation will only be possible after its recovery.
Police have launched an investigation to identify all those involved and to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the violence.
