Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay wasted no time in unveiling his government’s first major decisions after assuming office on Sunday, signing a series of orders aimed at public welfare and law enforcement reforms.

Among the key announcements was the approval of 200 units of free electricity for domestic consumers, a move expected to benefit lakhs of households across the state. The newly sworn-in Chief Minister also cleared proposals for the formation of a dedicated women’s safety force and specialised anti-drug trafficking units to strengthen security measures.

Speaking at his first public address after taking charge at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Vijay declared the beginning of what he described as a new phase focused on secular values and social equality.

The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder asserted that his administration would function under a clear leadership structure, stressing that there would be no parallel centres of influence within the government.

He also expressed gratitude to alliance partners, including the Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, the Indian Union Muslim League and Left parties, for supporting TVK in forming the government.

In an emotional moment during his speech, Vijay thanked children across the state, saying their encouragement to family members during the election campaign played a meaningful role in TVK’s victory.

The actor-turned-politician’s assumption of office marks a significant shift in Tamil Nadu politics, with his party now tasked with delivering on promises of governance reform and public-focused development.
