Vijayapura: A privately operated light aircraft met with an accident in a rural part of Karnataka’s Vijayapura district on Sunday afternoon, but both individuals on board survived after ejecting moments before impact, police officials said.

The incident occurred in an open agricultural field near Mangaluru village in Babaleshwar taluk. The two-seater aircraft, reportedly being used for training purposes, went down under circumstances that are yet to be fully established.

According to preliminary information, the pilot and the other occupant managed to eject safely before the aircraft hit the ground. The plane reportedly broke apart on impact, scattering debris across the field.

Both individuals sustained injuries in the incident and were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition is stated to be stable.

Local authorities said the aircraft was believed to be en route from Kalaburagi to Belagavi at the time of the crash. Officials from the aviation authorities are expected to visit the site to examine the wreckage and determine the cause of the mishap.

Police have secured the area, and further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
