Bijbehara: A rare accident occurred on Sunday when an eagle collided with the front windscreen of the Anantnag-Srinagar train, injuring the locomotive driver, officials reported.

The bird struck the windscreen at Bijbehara, causing it to shatter and fall into the driver’s cabin. The loco pilot sustained injuries, but all passengers on board remained unharmed.

Railway authorities confirmed that emergency measures were taken immediately, and the train’s operations were briefly halted to ensure safety and provide medical attention to the driver.

Such incidents, while uncommon, highlight the risks wildlife poses along certain rail routes, particularly in regions like Kashmir where trains pass through forested and hilly areas.

Investigations are underway to assess the damage to the train and to implement preventive measures to avoid similar collisions in the future.

Passengers on board praised the quick response of the railway staff, ensuring that the situation was managed without further harm.
