Shimla: Persistent heavy rainfall has thrown life out of gear in the state capital, Shimla. On Wednesday night, strong winds accompanying the downpour led to a massive tree collapsing on multiple vehicles parked along the roadside in the Panjdi locality near ISBT. Several cars sustained severe damage, but no casualties were reported as the area was fortunately deserted at the time.
Residents believe that prolonged rainfall has significantly weakened the roots of many trees in the region, making them prone to falling during storms. Local authorities, including the police and the municipal corporation, rushed to the scene soon after the incident was reported. Teams worked through the night to cut down the fallen tree and clear the debris, restoring partial movement in the area.
Locals have urged the administration to conduct regular inspections of old and fragile trees, especially during the monsoon season, and to take preventive measures such as trimming or securing them to avoid future mishaps.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a fresh alert, forecasting more heavy rain and strong winds in the coming days. Officials have advised residents to remain vigilant and avoid parking vehicles near large trees until weather conditions stabilize.
