Mirzapur: Tragedy struck on Wednesday as three pilgrims lost their lives after being hit by the Kalka–Howrah train while crossing the railway tracks in Mirzapur. The victims had reportedly come to take a holy dip on the occasion of Kartik Purnima.

Preliminary reports indicate that the accident occurred when the pilgrims disembarked from the train from the wrong side and attempted to cross the tracks. The train struck them, leaving the victims fatally injured.

Local authorities swiftly deployed a heavy police presence at the scene to manage the crowd, secure the area, and assist with rescue operations. Railway officials are investigating the circumstances of the incident to determine how it happened.

The incident has raised concerns about safety measures for pilgrims visiting the ghats during festivals, with officials urging travelers to use designated crossings and follow railway safety guidelines.

The Mirzapur administration has expressed condolences to the bereaved families and appealed to the public to remain cautious near railway tracks, especially during religious gatherings when large crowds are expected.
