Uttar Pradesh: A tragic road accident in Ambedkar Nagar claimed eight lives after a speeding vehicle crashed into a group of people who had gathered following an earlier collision between two motorcycles.
The incident occurred late Sunday night near Ashrafpur Bhua village on the Jalalpur–Akbarpur route. According to police, two bike riders had collided moments earlier, leaving them injured and drawing local residents to the spot to offer help.
While bystanders were attending to the victims, a fast-moving car reportedly lost control and drove straight into the crowd, causing widespread panic and severe injuries.
Several people were immediately rushed to a nearby health centre, where doctors confirmed multiple fatalities. Others who were critically hurt were referred to higher medical facilities but later succumbed to their injuries, increasing the death toll to eight.
Authorities have identified most of the victims, while efforts are underway to confirm the identities of the remaining deceased. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene soon after the crash, and police teams have launched a search operation to apprehend the accused.
Officials said a detailed probe has been initiated to determine the exact circumstances leading to the accident, including the speed and condition of the vehicle involved.
