Guru Randhawa Faces Legal Heat as Samrala Court Issues Summons

Samrala– Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa has been summoned by a local court in Samrala following a complaint over allegedly objectionable lyrics in his latest track Sira. The court has directed him to appear on September 2.

The complaint was lodged by Rajdeep Singh Mann, a resident of village Burma in Samrala tehsil, who objected to a line in the song that mentions, “Jamyaan nu gudhti ch malita afim ai.” Mann argued that the use of the word gudhti is offensive since it carries sacred importance in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

According to Advocate Gurveer Singh Dhillon, a legal notice had earlier been served to Randhawa, asking him to remove or clarify the lyric. As no resolution followed, the matter was escalated to court, resulting in the summons.

Randhawa must now appear before the Samrala court on the scheduled date for further proceedings. The controversy has reignited discussions on the responsibility of artists to ensure their creative work does not hurt religious or cultural sentiments.
