New Delhi: BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has reportedly resigned from the party, according to sources, although the Bharatiya Janata Party has not issued any official confirmation on the matter.
People familiar with the development said Poonawalla is believed to have submitted his resignation to the party leadership on Thursday evening. The reasons behind the reported decision have not yet been made public.
Fueling speculation, Poonawalla has reportedly updated the biographies on his social media accounts, removing references to the BJP. His profile now describes him as a “Bharatiya” and a lifelong follower of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, replacing his earlier party affiliation.
Poonawalla entered the BJP after leaving the Congress and went on to become one of the party’s most prominent television debaters and spokespersons. Over the years, he frequently represented the BJP on national news platforms and was known for defending the party’s positions on a wide range of political issues.
Despite reports of his resignation, neither Poonawalla nor the BJP has issued a formal statement confirming the development. Party leaders have also not commented publicly on the reports at the time of publication.
An official clarification from the BJP is awaited, and the circumstances surrounding Poonawalla’s reported exit remain unclear.
