Chandigarh: The Punjab Government has revised the date of the gazetted holiday for Eid-ul-Zuha (Bakri Eid), officially moving it from May 27, 2026 to May 28, 2026.

According to a notification issued by the Department of Personnel on Monday, the festival holiday will now be observed on Thursday, May 28 instead of the earlier announced Wednesday schedule.

Officials said the change has been made in line with updated directions from the Ministry of Personnel, Government of India, following a revision in the central holiday calendar.

As per the state government order issued by senior official K.A.P. Sinha, all government offices, boards, corporations, and educational institutions across Punjab will remain closed on the revised date.

The notification also clarified that the holiday has been declared under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, meaning it will also be applicable to banks and other financial institutions operating in the state.

With the revised announcement, administrative departments have been instructed to update their calendars accordingly and ensure compliance across all public institutions.

The rescheduling aligns Punjab’s observance of Bakri Eid with the updated national framework for gazetted holidays.
