Chandigarh: Investigations into the recent explosion outside the BJP office in Chandigarh gathered pace on Friday as the Counter-Intelligence wing of Punjab Police carried out early morning raids at multiple locations in Ropar district.
According to sources, search operations were conducted in Rattangarh village in the Morinda area, targeting two individuals suspected of having links to the blast reported earlier this week. While officials have not issued an official confirmation, family members claimed that one of the suspects, Amanpreet Singh, was taken into custody during the operation.
Police teams, however, were unable to locate another suspect, identified as Gurtej Singh, who is believed to be a key figure in the case. Preliminary inputs suggest that Gurtej, reportedly working as a bike taxi rider, may have played a role in the incident.
Family members of both suspects have denied any involvement. Amanpreet Singh’s wife maintained that her husband had no connection with Gurtej, while Gurtej’s mother stated that the family had not been in contact with him for several years. She also alleged that relatives were being unnecessarily troubled during the investigation.
Senior Superintendent of Police Maninder Singh said the raids were conducted by specialised teams from the police headquarters and declined to provide further details.
The blast outside the BJP office on Wednesday evening had raised security concerns, prompting a multi-agency probe. Authorities are continuing their investigation to establish the sequence of events and identify those responsible.
