Chandigarh: Punjab Police has claimed a significant success in its ongoing crackdown on cross-border terror networks by busting an ISI-backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module and arresting one suspected operative from Jalandhar. Officials said the operation prevented what could have been a major terror incident in the state.
The breakthrough came during a coordinated operation carried out by Counter Intelligence Jalandhar and the Jalandhar Rural Police. According to investigators, the module was allegedly being directed by handlers operating from abroad.
During the raid, security personnel recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) containing approximately 1.3 kilograms of high-grade explosive material. The device was also packed with ball bearings and metal shrapnel, suggesting it was designed to inflict maximum casualties in the event of an explosion.
Police officials believe the explosive was intended for a high-impact attack aimed at disrupting public order and creating panic. They said the timely intervention by the security agencies helped neutralise the threat before it could be executed.
A criminal case has been registered at Patara Police Station in Jalandhar Rural under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Explosive Substances Act, and the Arms Act.
Investigators are now working to identify the entire network behind the conspiracy. The probe will focus on tracing the role of overseas handlers, uncovering local collaborators, and establishing both the financial and logistical links connected to the terror module.
Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to taking firm action against terrorism, organised crime, and anti-national activities. Officials stated that operations against such networks would continue with the objective of ensuring public safety and maintaining peace across the state.
The latest seizure is being viewed as another major step in the state’s efforts to dismantle cross-border terror infrastructure and prevent extremist groups from carrying out attacks in Punjab.
