Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday led an extensive roadshow across Varanasi, attracting large crowds on the second day of his visit to his parliamentary constituency.

The procession, spanning nearly 14 kilometres, began at Banaras Locomotive Works and moved through key city stretches including Lahartara, Kachahri, Ambedkar Chauraha, Chaukaghat, Teliyabag, Lahurabir and Maidagin before concluding at the Kashi Vishwanath Dham.

Supporters lined both sides of the route from early morning, with many waving flags, chanting slogans and showering flower petals as the Prime Minister’s convoy passed. Party workers and residents gathered at designated welcome points, where traditional instruments such as drums and conch shells were used to welcome him.

Upon reaching the temple complex, Modi offered prayers at the revered Kashi Vishwanath Temple, participating in rituals accompanied by Vedic chants. Following the Pooja, local representatives greeted him with symbolic gifts including a trident, a damru and a ceremonial stole.

As he exited the premises, chants of “Har Har Mahadev” echoed through the area. The Prime Minister acknowledged the crowd with folded hands and waves, briefly interacting with children present at the corridor.

According to party representatives, the scale of participation made the roadshow one of the most significant public outreach events in the city in recent times. Officials noted that crowds remained steady along the entire route, reflecting heightened public interest in the visit.

Later in the day, the Prime Minister is scheduled to travel within Uttar Pradesh to inaugurate the Ganga Expressway, marking another key engagement during his visit.
