New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday distributed more than 61,000 appointment letters to newly selected candidates across various central government departments during the 18th edition of the Rozgar Mela, marking another major push towards employment generation.
Addressing the gathering through a virtual interaction, the Prime Minister described the appointment letters as a gateway to public service and urged the new recruits to carry out their responsibilities with dedication to constitutional values. He said the occasion symbolised not just the beginning of professional journeys but also an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.
Drawing parallels between the festive season and new beginnings, Modi noted that the start of the year and the recent celebration of Basant Panchami brought renewed energy and optimism. He highlighted the significance of the week, marked by observances such as Parakram Diwas in honour of Subhas Chandra Bose and National Voters’ Day, underscoring the spirit of democracy and duty.
The event, hosted in New Delhi, saw the presence of Union Minister Jitendra Singh along with senior officials from the police, paramilitary and defence services. Rozgar Melas were also organised simultaneously at over 40 locations nationwide, enabling candidates from across states to receive their appointment letters.
The Prime Minister said the new recruits would serve in critical sectors, including defence, healthcare, education, energy and internal security, thereby strengthening the country’s institutional framework. He termed their induction as a collective resolve to accelerate India’s development trajectory.
Emphasising the government’s focus on youth empowerment, Modi said the Rozgar Mela initiative was launched to fast-track government recruitment in a mission-driven manner. Over time, it has emerged as a key platform through which thousands of young Indians have secured public sector employment.
Highlighting India’s demographic advantage, he said the country’s young workforce was central to its growth ambitions. He also pointed to expanding international trade and mobility agreements, which are opening up new global employment avenues for Indian youth. Ongoing negotiations with countries such as the US, the UK and the European Union, along with recently concluded agreements, were cited as steps towards broadening economic opportunities.
The Prime Minister further underlined the role of infrastructure expansion and the startup ecosystem in generating jobs. He noted that rapid growth in construction, technology and entrepreneurship had significantly boosted employment prospects. With nearly two lakh registered startups employing over 21 lakh people, India’s innovation-led economy, supported by initiatives like Digital India, is creating fresh avenues in sectors ranging from animation to digital content creation.
Concluding his address, Modi congratulated the newly appointed candidates and encouraged them to approach their roles with integrity, commitment and a spirit of public service, reiterating that their contributions would shape the nation’s future.
